Tehran "Cooperates": the date is set for the inspection of the Qom nuclear plant

October 25 next. Dates also set for a meeting with U.S., France and Russia to import enriched uranium for use as fuel. According to ElBaradei in a short space of time Tehran has passed from "conspiracy to cooperation."

Tehran (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The head of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) said that the Iranian government will allow access and inspection of nuclear site near Qom on October 25.

At a press conference in the Iranian capital, Mohammed ElBaradei also praised Iran which in recent weeks has passed from "conspiracy to cooperation" with the international community.

In recent weeks the news emerged that Iran has hidden a nuclear plant in Qom for a long time, creating concern and anger in the world. The international community suspects that the Iranians have many sites aiming at the production of nuclear weapons. But Tehran maintains that its stations are used only for peaceful uses. After years of bitter opposition to inspections and checks, along with the silence on the different sites in operation,  in the last two weeks it seems Tehran is more open to further investigation. In the meeting with ElBaradei over the weekend, Iran also promised that it will soon open talks with some countries to export poor uranium and re-import it as nuclear fuel, thereby showing its good will in pursuing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The IAEA chief said that in this regard a meeting has been set for October 19 between Iran and the U.S., France and Russia to discuss details of the agreement.

For some analysts, Iran’s change in colours regarding its nuclear policy, from conflict to dialogue depends on the situation inside the country, where divisions have emerged in recent months with clashes between reformers and conservatives and even within the same group of conservatives.
