Church launches workshop in Lahore to train for peace
by Qaiser Felix
The National Commission for Justice and Peace inaugurates a peace education programme that brings together Christians and Muslims to give dialogue a chance after years of violence clashes.

Lahore (AsiaNews) – In Lahore the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) has recently launched a peace education programme designed to address the rising intolerance, violence and extremism in the country which needs harmony. The first phase of the project, which was dedicated to peace, brought together 34 men and women, including ten Muslims.

Mgr John Saldanha, archbishop of Lahore, welcomed the participants to the cathedral urging them to dedicate themselves to justice and dialogue.

“We are trying to promote a peaceful path towards social transformation and stability in some parts of the country like Punjab, Sindh and the North West Frontier Province,” said NCJP Director Fr Emmanuel Yousaf. “Participants love peace and this is the only weapon against Pakistan’s decline.”

“Violence has marked our society,” said NCJP Executive Secretary Peter Jacob. “But now it is the time to see what peace can do. Dialogue and non violence are the basis of every religious teaching and we must put into practice what our conscience tells us.”

What is the true good of the Church in China
by Card. Joseph Zen Ze-kiunOn the eve of an important meeting in Rome on "Jesus our contemporary," Card. Zen asks all Catholics to help the Church in China (and especially its legitimate bishops) to emerge from ambiguity, to follow Benedict XVI and "rid" themselves of those organisms that are enemies of the faith (see PA, Bureau of Religious Affairs, etc. .), and that control and stifle the faithful. The Chinese Church is on the verge of a schism caused by "bargaining" between the Catholic faith and political power. The subtitle of this article (wanted by the author) is: "In dialogue with the Community of Saint Egidio and Gianni Valente of 30Days".

Msgr. Savio Hon: Freedom for arrested bishops and priests, is also good for China
by Bernardo CervelleraEven if the government does not give answers or to the Holy See, or diplomats, or to friends of the Vatican and China, it is important that "no one forgets about them." The Chinese government's official response when asked is always: "We do not know." "We need to pray first," "but we must also appeal to those who are holding them."
