Funeral of abducted and murdered Palestinian youth to take place today

There are fears of renewed fighting and an increase in violence. This morning 20 mortars were launched from Gaza; Israeli aircraft carried out a raid, wounding 10 Palestinians. Yesterday in clashes with police 170 people were injured. According to the family of Muhammad Abu Khdair, the police are covering up investigations, given that the license plate of the kidnappers car and their faces were caught on camera. The assassination of Abu Khdair also condemned by the family of one of the young Israelis killed.

Jerusalem (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The Palestinians of Jerusalem are preparing for the funeral of 17 year old Mohammed Abu Khdair, who was killed yesterday morning. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the killing, which many see as Israeli settlers revenge for the assassination of the three students at a Jewish school, whose bodies were found the day before.

Even Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Benjiamin has condemned the execution of the young Palestinian as an "abominable murder."

The family of one of three young Israelis killed, Naphtali Frenkel, have also issued a statement of condemnation. "If the Arab youth was murdered because of nationalistic motives then this is a horrible and horrendous act".

The fear is that the funeral, which will be held at 13 (local time), after the midday Islamic prayer, could trigger riots and violence.

Already this morning at least 20 mortars were fired from Gaza on the Israeli town of Sderot, causing damage but no casualties. Israeli aircraft carried out the raid, wounding 10 Palestinians.

Yesterday, for almost the entire day Palestinian youths clashed with Israeli security forces, the first throwing stones; the police responded using water cannons and rubber bullets (see photo - Maan).

At least 170 Palestinians were injured, including several journalists.

Meanwhile, the family of Mohammed Abu Khdair demands immediate justice. The boy, who had left home in the early hours to attend morning prayer, was seen by witnesses who confirmed his abduction and his being forced to get into a car, who gave the license plate to the police. According to the family, the Israeli police are not carrying out any investigation, despite having license plate and video from cameras near the scene of the abduction.

The boy's body was found a few hours later with signs of violence and burned body parts. Muhammad's father, Hussein Abu Khdeir denied that his son was the victim of a family feud.

In recent days, in the search for the three abducted Israeli youths, police made raids in the West Bank, arresting some 500 Palestinians. Six Palestinians were killed during the search, including a16 year old, Yousef Abu Zagha, in Jenin.
