Dhaka (AsiaNews) - The five terrorists of the Dhaka massacre as well as the chef from the café where the attack happened were buried yesterday in the cemetery of Jurain in the capital. After the massacre on July 1 last, the families strongly condemned the young mens actions, and none requested their bodies to perform funeral rites in private.

The bodies of the terrorists Nibras Islam, Rohan Imtiaz, Meer Saameh Mubasheer, Khairul Islam Payel, Shafiqul Islam Uzzal and the cook Saiful Islam chowkidar, suspected of complicity, were buried by the Anjuman Mufidul Islam, a charitable organization entrusted by the authorities.

In early July 2016, Bangladesh and the world were shocked by the terrorist attack carried out by the five bombers at the Holey Artisan Bakery Cafe in Gulshan diplomatic district. The terrorists chose that place because they wanted to target foreigners, 18 of 20 total casualties. Italy has paid the highest price, with 9 deaths.

The attack raised the veil on a latent violent Islamic radicalism common among young people, who even abandoned the family to join the armed struggle.

Following the massacre, the government forces launched a manhunt across the country to root out other extremists and flush out the masterminds of the massacre. In late August,  counterterrorism agents  killed the "mastermind", Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, who was hiding along with two other radicals in a building not far from the capital. The police are still searching for the coordinator, Nurul Islam Marjan, and those who provided the weapons and funding.
