First issue of new magazine released by Macao's Matteo Ricci Institute

Macao (AsiaNews) – The Matteo Ricci Institute of Macao announced the publication of the first issue of its new quarterly magazine in English and Chinese, Chinese Cross Culture (Shenzhou Jiaoliu).

The goal of the Institute's magazine is to spread the principles behind its own research and scholarly activities, begun in Macao in 1999 following the reversion to China of the specially governed territory, forever a cultural crossroads.

The Matteo Ricci Institute, under the direction of Fr. Luis Sequeira, intends on contributing to a greater awareness of the Chinese world, in comparison and exchange with that of the West, even via the mediation of Christianity in the footsteps of Matteo Ricci. The Institute's calling is contemporary in a world that is ever more "globalized", in which meetings and sharing are intertwined with the growing need to affirm one's own specific cultural identify. The new quarterly, edited by Fr.Yves Camus, SJ, takes up these challenges to today's world and attempts to become their interpreter.

The novelty consists in a special attention given to the trends in thinking and problems in contemporary Chinese society; their interactions with rest of the world; and influence that contemporary culture has on these interactions. Chinese and foreign scholars will contribute to the magazine, which will help the reader to critically evaluate these aspects and acquire a wider understanding of today's China and its encounter with contemporary international culture.
