Youth gathered in prayer ahead of Sydney 2008

Over 600 young Catholics met in Da Lat in prayer and preparation ahead of the next World Youth Day.

Da Lat (AsiaNews) – Young Vietnamese “have overcome great difficulties during their lives, and they have many yet to overcome”, but “this is why it is important to meet and work together in order to do good and improve the future of the Church and the nation”.

 

Speaking to AsiaNews a young parishioner from Lac Vien, La, who participated in yesterday-s gathering organised ahead of the upcoming World Youth Day, in Sydney 2008.

 

Over 600 young people, most of them from the Churu ethnic minority, gathered for two days of camping and prayer.  The aims of the encounter, according to organisers is “to come to the aid of young peoples needs, contribute to the development of the family, parishes and society.  In the end, to prepare for the great gathering in Sydney”.

 

La, who is also Churu, explains: “We are proud of our people-s tradition of culture and values.  Our church was built in 1958 and destroyed by the war in 1975.  We rebuilt it and now we want to make it flourish”.
